Common questions

Answers about how I work, and about counselling in Richmond upon Thames.

About counselling

How long does counselling take?
It really depends on you. Some people find a few months of focused work is enough; others value longer-term, open-ended therapy. We'll review together regularly.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. What we discuss stays between us, with the usual professional exceptions (risk of serious harm, or where the law requires disclosure). I'll explain these clearly in our first session.
Do you offer evening appointments?
I hold a limited number of early evening slots each week. Availability varies, so please ask.
What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
In practice, the two often overlap. Counselling tends to be more focused and shorter-term, while psychotherapy can go deeper into long-standing patterns. I work flexibly across both.
I've never had therapy before — what should I expect?
Just a conversation, at your pace. There's nothing you need to prepare. We'll spend the first session getting a sense of what's bringing you and how I work.

Counselling in Richmond

Where is your counselling practice in Richmond?
Sessions are held at 1 Union Court, Sheen Road, Richmond upon Thames, London TW9 1AA — a short walk from Richmond station. The consulting room is private and calm, with no shared reception area. You can also call 07839 294 921 to arrange a free introductory call.
Do you offer in-person counselling in Richmond as well as online?
Yes. You can meet in person at my Richmond consulting room or attend sessions by secure video if that's easier — including if you live outside London but want continuity with the same therapist.
Which areas do clients typically travel from?
Many clients come from Richmond upon Thames and nearby — including Twickenham, Teddington, Ham, Barnes, Kew, East Sheen and Kingston upon Thames. You're welcome from further afield too, especially if online sessions suit you better.
How do I get to your Richmond consulting room?
Richmond station (District line and National Rail) is the nearest, about a five-minute walk. Sheen Road is also served by local buses. If you're driving, there is paid parking nearby — allow a few extra minutes at busy times.
Can I start with a call before booking a session in Richmond?
Yes. A free 15-minute phone or video call is a low-pressure way to ask questions, talk through what you're looking for, and see whether we'd work well together before committing to a first session.
What types of counselling do you offer in Richmond?
I work with adults on anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, couples work and life transitions — in person in Richmond or online. You can read more on the Services page, or get in touch if you're unsure where to start.
