FAQ
Common questions
Answers about how I work, and about counselling in Richmond upon Thames.
About counselling
- How long does counselling take?
- It really depends on you. Some people find a few months of focused work is enough; others value longer-term, open-ended therapy. We'll review together regularly.
- Is everything confidential?
- Yes. What we discuss stays between us, with the usual professional exceptions (risk of serious harm, or where the law requires disclosure). I'll explain these clearly in our first session.
- Do you offer evening appointments?
- I hold a limited number of early evening slots each week. Availability varies, so please ask.
- What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
- In practice, the two often overlap. Counselling tends to be more focused and shorter-term, while psychotherapy can go deeper into long-standing patterns. I work flexibly across both.
- I've never had therapy before — what should I expect?
- Just a conversation, at your pace. There's nothing you need to prepare. We'll spend the first session getting a sense of what's bringing you and how I work.
